KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects were arrested on Thursday night in connection with the sex video case.
Police secretary Datuk Ghazali Md Amin said in a statement that one of the suspects revealed the location where the sex scene was recorded.
Ghazali said a police forensic team had visited the scene to carry out investigations.
“We also seized evidence from the two suspects,” he said, adding that both suspects were released on bail pending further investigations.
Former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, who had earlier admitted to being responsible for the emergence of the sex video, denied they were arrested.
The two were questioned by police on Thursday night but yesterday denied that they were arrested and released on bail.
They are being investigated for allegedly being in possession of and distributing the sex video.
The third person implicated in the case, Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim, was also questioned last night. The trio are expected to hold a press conference today.
The sex video, allegedly featuring opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a prostitute, was believed to have been recorded in a service apartment at Jalan Ampang Hilir, here.
The recording was handed to the police on Thursday night along with an Omega wristwatch, which was supposedly taken from the room where the sex act took place.
A source disclosed that police had also recorded statements from the guards at the service apartment.
Earlier at the police training centre yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said police were trying to ascertain the identities of the people in the video and those responsible for the recording.
“This is the task force’s third day of carrying out investigations. We are still trying to find out more,” he said.
On Monday, selected members of the press were invited to the Carcosa Seri Negara hotel here to view the recording.
The following day, Anwar lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters denying that he was the man in the clip.
On Wednesday, Rahim and Shuib admitted that they were behind the sex video. They also named Shuib as being party to the case.
Several other police reports have been lodged against the screening of the sex video.
Yesterday, a group of Parti Keadilan Rakyat members and supporters held a demonstration outside the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) building along Jalan Ampang, calling for Rahim to step down as its chairman.
PKR national youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin accused Rahim of being malicious in smearing Anwar’s name.
In Putrajaya, Bernama reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday confirmed that a report was lodged by PKR Youth over the sex video.
It is learnt that Shamsul had gone to the MACC headquarters here about 10am and left two hours later.
